Heritage has partnered with
Grain Surfboards to offer a class on how to create your very own, hand built, hollow wooden surfboard.
The 4-day board building class will take place here in San Clemente,
California at the
Surfing
Heritage Foundation headquarters.
Grain offers various
designs for students to choose from, the class takes place from February
6-9th, 2012.
Tuition includes hands-on instruction,
materials to build your choice of boards, 2 meals a day, and a one-year

Aloha, Im Wendell Abbey and am 73 years old. I now live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii for 19 years and I learned how to body surf and surfing and canoe paddling at Waikiki Beach in the 50s. I surfed with guys like Rabbit Kekai,Jama Kekai, Duke Kahanamoko, and paddled with Waikiki Outrigger Canoe Club, and Healani Outrigger Canoe Club. Then I moved to Southern California at Hermosa Bch. I surfed up and down the coast over there and worked for many surfboard companies such as Greg Knoll, Dewey Weber, Bing Copeland, Happ Jacobs, Lymann Surfboards, and paddled canoe at Marina Del Rea Beach, with Bunny Kahanamoku and Steven Kekuewa. Then I joined another canoe club that was started from one of my good friend and became president of the club of the California Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Club. We raced in the Marina Del Rey beach and other beaches in California. Then back in the sixties, the Canoe All Stars came to California to race from Catalina to Newport, so I joined them. Rabbit Kekai was the kapton of this club and we won the race by under the 3 minute record. Now Rabbit Kekai lives back home and he is around 80 years old. I would love to do this again, but Im to old now, so hope to see lots of movies of surfing and canoe paddleing. Aloha, Bradda Wendell Abbey
